STACYC FAQ — Electric Balance Bikes for Kids in Canada

Have questions about STACYC electric balance bikes? Here are the most common questions from customers at BalanceBike.ca, your Canadian specialist for STACYC bikes, parts, accessories and young rider progression.

What is a STACYC?

A STACYC is an electric balance bike designed to help kids safely learn balance, throttle control and riding confidence before transitioning to bigger bikes, motocross or motorcycles.

It can first be used in non-powered mode like a traditional balance bike, and later transition to electric power mode as the child gains confidence.

If your child can walk confidently, they may begin using a STACYC in non-powered mode.

Which STACYC model should I buy?

STACYC currently offers several models designed for different ages, riding styles and progression levels.

  • 12eDrive — ideal for children aged 3–5 years
  • 16eDrive — ideal for children aged 5–7 years
  • 16eDrive Elite — higher-performance model for children aged 6–9 years
  • 16HDrive — integrated-hub model for children aged 4–9 years
  • 20eDrive — advanced progression model for children aged 9–12 years
  • 20HDrive — adult / parent model designed to ride along with your kids

The right choice depends mainly on your child’s inseam, confidence level and riding goals.

What size STACYC should I choose?

The best size mainly depends on your child’s inseam measurement.

  • Inseam 40–50 cm (16–20 in) → STACYC 12eDrive
  • Inseam 45–60 cm (18–24 in) → STACYC 16eDrive
  • Inseam 50–55 cm (20–22 in) → STACYC 16eDrive Elite
  • Minimum inseam 50 cm (20 in) → STACYC 16HDrive
  • Inseam 60–66 cm (24–26 in) → STACYC 20eDrive

Always make sure your child can comfortably place both feet flat on the ground when seated on the bike.

If your child is between sizes, confidence level, terrain and intended use also matter.

My child is under 3 years old. Can they ride a STACYC?

If your child can walk confidently, they may begin using a STACYC in non-powered mode.

However, we generally recommend a minimum age of 3 years old with parental supervision.

How does a STACYC work without pedals?

At first, children push with their feet just like a traditional balance bike.

As they gain confidence and learn to brake properly, they can gradually start using the electric throttle mode.

Power modes

Most STACYC models feature three power levels so progression can stay smooth and parent-controlled.

  • Low / Training — for first contact with throttle and gentle learning
  • Mid / Standard — for growing confidence and regular riding
  • High / Advanced — for more experienced riders under supervision

How fast does a STACYC go?

  • 12eDrive — about 8 / 12 / 15 km/h
  • 16eDrive — about 8 / 12 / 21 km/h
  • 16HDrive — about 8 / 14 / 21 km/h
  • 16eDrive Elite — about 14 / 22 / 31 km/h
  • 20eDrive — about 16 / 24 / 32 km/h

How long does the battery last?

Battery runtime depends on rider weight, terrain, temperature and riding style.

  • 12eDrive → typically 30–60 minutes
  • 16eDrive → typically 30–60 minutes
  • 16HDrive → typically 60–75 minutes
  • 16eDrive Elite → typically 30–45 minutes
  • 20eDrive → typically 30–45 minutes

Riding in grass, sand, loose dirt or steep hills will reduce battery life.

How long does it take to charge the battery?

  • 12eDrive → about 45 minutes
  • 16eDrive → about 45 minutes
  • 16HDrive → about 45 minutes
  • 16eDrive Elite → about 1.5 hours with standard charger, or about 45 minutes with fast charger sold separately
  • 20eDrive → about 1.5 hours with standard charger, or about 45 minutes with fast charger sold separately

Many families choose to purchase a second battery to extend riding time.

What is the difference between eDrive, Elite and HDrive models?

The eDrive models are the classic STACYC electric balance bikes built around progressive learning and throttle control.

The Elite version is a more premium, more powerful progression model with upgraded suspension, brakes and a more aggressive ride feel.

The HDrive uses an integrated rear hub motor for a quieter, chain-free and lower-maintenance riding experience.

Is the 20HDrive a kids model?

No. On BalanceBike.ca, the 20HDrive is currently positioned as an adult / parent electric bike designed to ride at the same pace as your kids.

Can kids ride in grass or hills?

Yes, but battery range will be reduced.

For best performance, we recommend riding on flat hard surfaces like asphalt or concrete.

Can a STACYC be used in wet conditions?

STACYC bikes are designed for use in dry conditions.

Riding in rain, snow or wet environments can damage the electrical system and may void the warranty.
